Donate or Free Lease a Horse to the Lovelane Herd

The work of a therapeutic horse is both mentally and physically challenging. It takes a very special horse to do this important job and to help ensure the safety of our Lovelane riders.

We are always looking for new equine partners to join our herd,
and prefer horses with the following attributes:

  • Serviceably sound at the walk and trot, as it is the quality of the horse’s movement that benefits the rider.
  • Possessing a steady, calm, easy-going temperament and good ground manners.
  • Tolerant of being handled by multiple instructors and volunteers on a daily basis.
  • Tolerant of up to 2 side walkers, 1 leader, and an instructor at the walk and trot.
  • Tolerant of unbalanced, unsteady, unpredictable riders who may make unexpected movements or loud noises.
  • Tolerant of the use of toys and games by riders and side walkers.
  • Happy being groomed and tacked on cross ties by volunteers and students.
  • Able to participate in both leading lessons and by independent riders, as well as for unmounted programs with young children.
  • Tolerant of mirrors, and comfortable in indoor and outdoor arenas and on wooded trails.
  • Preferably between the ages of 9-20.
  • Preferably between 14-16.1 hands.
  • Beginner safe.

A Day in the Life of a Lovelane Horse...

Our horses typically work in 2 30-minute lessons per day, up to 6 days per week. Additionally, each horse has a personalized conditioning schedule, carried out by Lovelane staff.

Every horse has one day off per week and daily turnout. They receive routine hoof care, vaccinations, regular deworming and dental care. We also offer regular chiropractic, reiki and massage to keep our hard-working horses happy, comfortable, and relaxed.
