The work of a therapeutic horse is both mentally and physically challenging. It takes a very special horse to do this important job and to help ensure the safety of our Lovelane riders.

Our loveable son Jack was born with cardiomyopathy and a rare congenital eye disease called Peters Anomaly. At nine months old he had a heart transplant, and before the age of 2 he had multiple eye surgeries. As a result of his visual impairment, Jack struggles with body awareness and balance. He also has autism and global developmental delays, which cause repetitive behaviors, emotional dysregulation, and difficulty with following instructions, staying focused, and communicating his thoughts and feelings to others. Because of these challenges, Jack struggles with social integration at school and often plays alone.
Jack’s first experience on a horse at Lovelane was breathtaking. He was calm, comfortable, focused and happy. Over time, the natural movement of the horse has helped him become stronger and more balanced. He has become increasingly aware of his body and has learned to adjust his position to stay centered on the horse while walking or trotting, and his stamina has increased. He is now better able to safely and successfully navigate through the barn and on uneven terrain.
In addition to those therapeutic gains, Jack’s riding lessons at Lovelane have also helped him improve his attention span, regulate his behavior and emotions, and develop his language, comprehension, and social and communication skills. Amazingly, he has written a 28-page chapter book with help from his teacher, about his time at the barn, and shared it with his classmates. Now Jack will proudly talk about his love of horseback riding to anyone!
Jack’s time at Lovelane has been invaluable to him, and to countless other children and young adults. As parents, we are so thankful that Jack has found a place to call his own – a place where he can connect, develop, and grow. We humbly and gratefully ask you to consider supporting Lovelane so this unique and comprehensive program remains possible for all children in need.
Sincerely,
Shuai Li and Ryan Gao

Donations provide direct funding to families who otherwise could not afford the base lesson price at Lovelane.
Susan McDaniel, an athlete, actress, and equestrian, was a student at Lovelane throughout her two-year battle with cancer. Susan passed away in 2004 at the age of 10. The Run for Lovelane, established in 1996, was dedicated in Susan’s memory in 2005. At the same time, the Susan McDaniel Tuition Assistance Fund was created. The intended purpose of this non-restricted fund is to support families who are unable to afford Lovelane’s lesson price of $136 weekly. Lovelane accepts children off the waitlist based on next availability, whether or not that family has the ability to pay. Once in the program, families may apply for tuition assistance. Forty percent of Lovelane families receive tuition assistance totaling $65,000 annually through the Susan McDaniel Tuition Assistance Fund.
A Board advised investment fund to help support the sustainability of Lovelane’s program.
The Stanley Sabin Sustainability Fund will provide Lovelane the financial resources to help fulfill its mission, diversify its funding and meet unexpected expenses in the future. Most importantly, it will ensure that Lovelane can continue to deliver quality programs for children with special needs today and for years to come. The Stanley Sabin Sustainability Fund has been named in honor of Lovelane Founder, Debby Sabin’s father, Stanley Sabin, who was a most beloved founding member of the Board of Directors, a renowned local physician and a strong believer in Lovelane’s ability to nurture and bring out the best in each of its students.
