About

In a fun, supportive environment, Lovelane provides high-quality therapeutic horseback riding to achieve occupational, physical, speech, cognitive and other therapeutic gains, focusing on children with special needs.

History

Lovelane Special Needs Horseback Riding Program was founded by Debby Sabin, an Occupational Therapist, on Lovelane Road in Weston in 1988 with just five riders, one volunteer and three borrowed horses!

A year later it was incorporated as a non-profit and in 1993 Lovelane moved to a new backyard barn, home of horse trainer Elsie Rodney. In 1995 it doubled in size and expanded to Debby’s backyard, where the program continued to grow.

With demand growing, a large wait list of children with special needs, and having created a reputation as a top quality therapeutic program, a successful capital campaign in 2004 enabled the program to move into a permanent home designed exclusively for the special needs population. The facility includes indoor and outdoor arenas, a therapy room, office space, horse stalls and access to outdoor trails.

Today, Lovelane provides services to 152 students a week in both mounted and unmounted programing with the help of 215 volunteers.

Our Farm

Lovelane Special Needs Horseback Riding Program is located at 40 Baker Bridge Road in Lincoln, MA.

In 2004, a successful capital campaign enabled Lovelane’s program to move into our permanent home designed specifically for the special needs population. The program more than tripled in sized with the new facility’s opening.  Currently, Lovelane is open seven days a week, year-round providing 4500 therapeutic sessions a year with the help of 197 volunteers.

Lovelane’s goal is to make the biggest life impact on each of our individual students and their families.

  • The facility boasts a 13-stall barn with 6 paddocks
  • A heated indoor arena for year-round riding in addition to an outdoor arena
  • A heated, indoor community viewing space for riders, patients, caretakers, families, and volunteers to watch lessons
  • Sensory Trail to take students into the woods on horseback
  • A heated tack and grain room for unmounted students to participate in grooming and feeding horses
  • A therapy classroom for workshops, staff gatherings and unmounted activities
