When Maya was just one year old, she was diagnosed with MEGDEL, a rare degenerative mitochondrial disorder that causes developmental delays and the progressive loss of verbal, motor, and auditory abilities. Now eight, Maya is enthusiastic, loving, animated, and full of personality.
As Maya’s needs grew, her parents searched for ways to give her the joys of a typical childhood. They tried town soccer and ballet, hoping she could participate alongside other children. Over time, they came to realize that many traditional activities were simply not designed to support a child with Maya’s changing physical and communication needs.
Then they found Lovelane.
At Lovelane, Maya found far more than an activity. She found a place where she could experience joy, build strength, improve motor skills, enhance communication, and develop greater self-confidence. Her time at Lovelane has also supported emotional self-regulation and given her something every child deserves: a true sense of belonging.
Most importantly, Lovelane gives Maya the freedom to be fully herself. She is not seen as a problem to be solved or defined by her diagnosis. She is recognized for her strengths, her spirit, and everything she brings to the world.
Lovelane is a place of growth, wonder, connection, and possibility that gives Maya what her parents hoped she would find all along: a place to belong, to grow, and to experience the simple joy of being a child.💙
